A team of young independent film-makers from the UK is seeking crowd funding for a new noir-themed web series titled The Run, which is being promoted as a story about power, ambition, trust, loyalty and betrayal set in a world of corporate intrigue.
The pilot was a finalist at last year’s Raindance Web Festival in London, and from my viewing I was struck by the high production values, the quality of the acting and the originality of the script. A mystery scenario is established early and in the final scene you know a femme-fatale is at the centre of a love triangle – if not a British take on amour fou. What is particularly impressive is that the almost-banal opening scene, in which a couple of office workers working back late discuss a project and a coming fun run, has an unsettling undercurrent – courtesy of the noirish lighting of the scene, the dialog, the actors and the director’s exceptionally accomplished mise-en-scène.
The INDIGOGO campaign for The Run is seeking a modest US$20,000 to fund the next 5 episodes. The sponsorship bonuses are refreshingly perky, and include a street art object made just for you on the streets of London for a contribution of US$200, while US$60 will get you a personalized letter or video from the femme fatale of the series.
A project that if the pilot is a guide will be a knockout and worthy of strong support.
