Hi Eric. I recently bought myself a Kindle, and I have been reading a lot more lately. The eBook version can be got for US$5.99 here: http://ebooks.ebookmall.com/author/wr-burnett-ebooks.htm.

Burnett weaves a compelling narrative and reading the book certainly increased my appreciation of the movie and how much it owes to the book.

Thanks for the visit. Tony

I cannot believe I have never read this book. I always think I know the film so well it would be a letdown but this really makes me want to check out the book. Thanks for lighting the fire under my ass.

A mist-like rain blew between
the tall buildings at intervals, wetting the streets and pavements and
turning them into black, fun-house mirrors that reflected in grotesque
distortions the street lights and neon signs."

That's my favorite passage of all here, but the sum total here of these beautiful passages, raises the bar for descriptive writing. I'd think we'd all give our right leg to be able to write like that, and yes the use of 'black' here was brilliant. You really found something extraordinary here Tony!

Hi! Tony,
This is totally different take on Burnett's "The Asphalt Jungle" from your own review of this film.

I also noticed his use of many different colours in this writing(s)...For instance, bluish, orange, yellow, grey and pinkish, but the word black seems to be used the most frequent in this piece.

Once again,
Thanks, for sharing!
